I have the hood off the car while swaping the motor. I removed the latch striker from the hood and placed the hood on the roof of the car, on top of a few layers of bed sheets and a piece of cardboard. It will probably stay there for about six months. Does this sound ok ??? I know that it sounds silly, but my mother of all people saw it like that and starting asking questions, making me doubt.

Wal,
We used to do it all the time when we were doing engine swaps, but never for that long. We had a couple of old moving blankets we used. I dont see where it should hurt the paint as long as it is not being moved around all the time.

Putting the hood on the roof is my current best place to store the hood during engine swaps. I have a giant sheet of 2" thick styro foam I put under the hood and then an old bed spread under that, to protect both the roof and the hood.

The hood is pretty heavy but given the right support it would probly be ok, BUT, its easier to fix a dinged hood than it is a dented, caved in roof. I say lay it flat against a wall and strap it to the wall to keep it flat against it.

My car is in the garage and pieces including the hood and dash are in my old bedroom in the basement at mamas house.

I guess I'm a *******, but I somehow persuaded my wife into letting me store my hood in one of our spare bedrooms :D
Ya, I have to admit that last year I had my hood & a fender in the living room for a couple of months while I was stripping the undercarage of my car.. My wife drew the line a couple of weeks before x-mas..

I have a nylon rope that is tied to the ceiling

I loop the front - then unbolt the rear

and have a friend help lift the back end up into the rear loop

then just take up some slack to pull it closer to the ceiling

then it gives me some good spots to hang a couple of clip on lamps above my head - right in the area to shine in the engine bay
