Does anyone have any hints on getting a stock
tach to work with an HEI ? Just installed an accel hei distributor, runs good no problems yet,
just can,t get tach to work. Tried a search but couldn,t find an answer. I hooked up my tach and dwell meter and it reads rpm accurately ,and the tach worked fine before with points dist.,so what gives? Thanks in advance.

Leo,
Thanks, I really would like to keep the dash
looking stock.I was planning to just upgrade the clock to a quartz unit and possibly the amp to a voltmeter.

Fig,
Thanks, yes i,m sure I hooked up to the TACH terminal on the HEI with my tach and dwell meter
and it reads rpm accurately. Ran a new wire to the fuse block, full 12v ,has 13.8v running at the BAT terminal on the HEI. Brown wire to tach worked fine with the old points dist. This isn't
the 1st time I've done this, just the first time
with a stock in dash tach.
Gonna check it again if it doesn't rain this weekend.

John, on my 79 Camaro, HEI with stock tach I remember seeing a condenser like object in the tach wire. Not sure, just something to check.
