Hey everyone,
Wondering if someone could help me ID this steering box on my 67. I don't know anything about steering boxes, but wondering also if it's adjustable at all? I have quite a bit of steering wheel play. I tried looking online, but every picture or video I've found has an allen key adjustment.. where as mine has a flathead, so haven't
been able to identify, or find out if it's adjustable the same way.
Thanks for you help!

That is a basic manual steering box. I had the same and here's what I did :
Bought a power steering box for a 1996-98 Jeep Cherokee. It was $140 and has a fast ratio 12.7:1. More Information for CARDONE 277560
You will need a new pitman arm for a 67 with power steering. It's the arm that connects to the box.
Also need a new rag joint that will adapt everything. Then a PS pump setup for your engine with hoses.

With the short amount of threads left on the adjustment screw, you should be looking to replace that steering box. It can be rebuilt if you can find the parts. Is power steering an option?? Beth above has a great idea for replacement!!

If you buy the “Jeep” box, you will need “hose seat” adapters (does Lee still sell these?) to use “ 1967 Chevelle” hoses. Don’t forget the additional $500+ for the pump, pitman arm, canister, reservoir, pulleys, rag joint, brackets, belts and hoses.

You can buy a remanufactured direct replacement steering box (manual) for about $140 (Cardone). Maybe less if you shop around.

IMO, I’d adjust yours first. Don’t worry about “slotted” versus “allen”. I think Allen’s are just newer, all the original Chevelle boxes I have seen were slotted.

Also be sure to check ( and replace as needed) all the tie rods , centerlink and idler arm, as these can add a lot of play to the system.
