I had a shift on the column and changed it to a 4 on the floor. Picked up a new sleev and need to know why the ignition key wont turn. Is there a safety feature built in the ignition key since it was a 3 on the column that I need to do something with?
The lower portion of the column should turn and operates the backup lights/neutral safety switch and is also a shifter lock. Perhaps this isn't turned fully to the left? (park position) This is operated by a rod going from the transmission.
Another possible is your key is worn. I just went through the same problem and thought there was a problem with my column. Turned out that the key was worn from being in my pocket for the last 7 years! Got a new one stamped from the original key codes and it works like new now!
