OK I went to start my car last night turned the key turned over about one time and caluck good bye starter got under the car got the starter out looked at my flywheel that is know 3 teeth short. The problem is I have know whent thought 2 mini starters and two reg CSK starters. 1 mini starter and the Two CSK starters pretty much broke in half. All this has happen since I mounted my battery in the trunk last year. It seems It does this when the battery gett's a little weak and the starter doesn't disengage fast a nuff. Any idea's would be great. The only thing I can think to do Is try shorting the battery cable Maybe it's two long I could reroute It and save 2 feet. I will say last night I had a batter pack charging the battery so I don't know?

What gauge wire is run to the battery? I have 2/0 welding cable in mine to the trunk. ( It's what I could get at work.) But the point is you need a heavy gauge cable for a long distance. Also is the the engine grounded. Just to be safe I have mine grounded to the chassis with a cable and the body is grounded to the back of the engine. What is the timing advance on the motor and finally make sure they are the 3.0 hp mini starters and not the chep 1.6 hp starters. I broke a 1.6 starter on my motor even with the start retard. I now have the powermaster ultra torque starter at 3.1 hp with no problems.

Am not sure of the gauge wire but It was a battery mount kit from maroso(I think that's how it's spelled) so am pretty sure it's heavy duty It's thick cable and it's grounded to the frame. The starter that I have I got from a race shop and I told him the problem i was haveing and he recomended the starter and he said he has never seen one that has broke and it was not cheap I will check to see what the hp rating is but the amount of money I paid for it I would asume that's it's a 3hp. I did take the starter out and the starter looks fine and my ignition wire came off the starter so that's why it stoped cranking but It kicked back hard and I don't know if that's why the wire came off of not. But my flywheel is jacked one full tooth gone and two others have some damage.

I just got the Power Master Ultra because my other high torque mini starter would not rotate my motor fast enough with it's compression. I think the other starter I had was only good 12:1 and the Ultra is good 18:1 and it has 250 ft lbs of torque. With my first starter it struggled to turn the motor over and got worst, when I put the Ultra starter on, it spun it like a 9:1 motor. Fires right up. My buddy was starting his motor and broke one of those cast snout mini starters when it kicked back. He grabbed the Power Master XS and that one spins really fast too and is a billet mount.

I believe the moroso kits come with 2gauge wire, In a high compression engine that wire is not big enough to supply the needed amps to spin it. You'll get the correct voltage but due to resitance you will not get the full amp potential of your battery. I would change the positive cable to a 00 gauge all the way to the starter. Neg side I would run atleast a single 0 to the frame at the rear of the car then another from the frame in the front to the engine block. that should fix your problems

edit---when you buy cables, youll want the smallest copper strands you can find. should look like copper hair NOT coat hanger size strands. the smaller strands have less resistance == more current/amps at the starter.

Found this out there on the net. You do not want the cable to short out.

Welding cable:
Welding cable is built to be flexible so the welder does not have to work hard to drag the wires around. It usually has a high temp rating and a soft flexible insulation. I'm not sure about the abrasion resistance or other attributes of the cable. I have seen it swell up when exposed to oil... so do NOT use it in an application where it will get all oily. Some guys claim that because it has many fine strands it carries more current due to "skin" effect. Those guys have forgotten that "skin effect" is a high frequency phenomenon (think microwave communications) and does not exist at DC.
