I am working on a 70 chevelle in which I have replaced the factory starter with a mini high torque unit. The new starter does not require use of the yellow wire, yet now my amp gauge shows a draw. Should I hook the yellow wire up somewhere else? I am not sure of it's function. Any insight as to it's purpose would be greatly appreciated.

The yellow wire went directly from the starter to the + side of the ignition coil and was used only with a points type ignition (original). If you have a HEI or most aftermarket electronic, its not needed and can be left unhooked. At the coil end it is crimped in with the white resistor wire. It supplied +12V to the coil during cranking only. It won't have any affect on the AMP meter when left unhooked.
