HEY ALL
I just finished my new motor and got it in and when i start it, the starter runs on for 20 seconds after the engine starts?????
Some times when im driving it and i get on it a little it kicks in again???

Need some help here please

Its a 383 stroker with a stock starter

Be sure to use genuine Chevy starter bolts, front brace to block and shim for proper clearance to the starter ring gear. Also check to see that the drive fully retracts into starter when not engaged. (This will happen if there is drag in the solenoid piston, weak spring or sloppy linkage)

I agree with Dave. Pull the starter and inspect the internals. I am betting you have a bad part or two in there. Could be it is just dirty and stiff and only requries cleaning. When you get it out, check the wear pattern on the starter drive gear. If it shows wear deep on the gear between the teeth, then the starter was too close to the ring gear (needing shims) and this could be why it does not disengage cleanly. Post back with what you find, esp a pic of the gear.
