Anyone perform this swap? Was wondering if I could swap in a volt gauge-say from a mid-80's monte carlo type, into the stock housing of a 71 SS dash? Curious if anyone else has done that?

You can use a gauge from an 80's Chive/GMC truck. It's not a match but you can trim the end and remove the paint from the round part of the pointer to make look closer to the 71 gauge. You may need to trim the face to the same shape of the amp gauge for a better fit. You will need to ground one of the leads if I remember correctly it will be the black/white/dkblue wire that connects at or near the horn relay (the factory connected this wire to a soldered junction about 6" from the horn relay). The other wire will need to be connected to the ACC terminal at the fuse panel or other ignition switched wire. I have modified a truck volt gauge as described just never installed it.

Sid,

See my post "69' Tach and Gauge Bench/test" this forum.
American Classic Restoration can convert you amp meter to a volt meter for about $89 bucks!

I just spoke with Ken at ACR today about mine. I'll be sending it out soon.
Tell Ken that Brian from Norton, Ohio and Team Chevelle sent you!
