I was just sitting and thinking, "You know what would be helpful? If the performance board was divided into two sections, one for BBC and one for SBC." So, I thought I would offer a poll to see if others would find this helpful as well. This would probably be helpful to those new to the hobby, especially when the more experienced sages start talking only in terms of casting #'s, port shapes, cam profile #'s etc and the reader has no clue what they are talking about. At least they would know which version of engine is being discussed. Plus small block guys like me wouldn't have to wade through literally TONS of BBC post that are of no use to me other than to make me envious . . . LOL!

SBC guys are just as interested in BBC and vice versa, this has worked for many years. It would be senseless to change anything. You ask your questions and they get answered, BBC or SBC!

I thought about running a poll on spitting the performance into "street cars" and "race cars". There are a lot of us with cars that have upwards to 700 HP, the best in transmission and rear end set-ups, but will never see a 1/4 mile drag strip. Then there are the guys who spend more time at the strip than they do on the street.

When a enthusiast logs on and asks a question about cams, compression, heads, gears, etc, the first thing many of us ask is, " is this a street car".

Many of the things that make a car more street friendly are a detriment at the track, and visa-versa. If you go strictly by power to weight ratios, many of us are driving cars to work that could turn mid 10 second ET's. But we all know that there is a heck of a lot more to turning a good ET than Horsepower and Weight, or the lack of.
High stall converters, 11 to 1 and over compression, 4.56 gears, loose front ends, slicks, big cams, etc. great for the track, but can get annoying pretty quick if you get caught in traffic.
I voted no on the SB-BB separation. Guys usually say up front if it's a Mouse or a Rat.

Come to think of it, I suppose they could say the same about street or track.

What do you mean, it's already split -- the BB guys hang out in the Performance section, while the SB guys hang out in the Engine section.. :)

I voted no -- I don't have any issues getting my SB questions answered in the Performance section. One of the keys, IMO, is have a well-worded subject so people know what the post is about. If you're really good, you'll make sure to have a lot of pertinent information in your first sentence or two. You can sorta 'preview' a post by hovering the mouse over the subject when you are browsing the thread lists.

Just my $.02

No need to split. Not enough traffic to warrant it.

And engines are engines...it's all the same stuff. Everyone can learn from the discussions of both.

A lot of the science and math are the same. A lot of or all of the postulates of gofastology are the same. Heck I've helped some bigblock guys before and been helped by some bigblock guys before....and I'm a smallblock guy. Not like admins would ever split them but I say keep 'em together.

I say don't split. Performance is Performance. There is an engines forum that could be split, but why? All of it is antiquated technology. There is a 10 year difference in the ages of sbc vs bbc. we have a separate forum for new stuff, LS series, which is still an engine. I'd lump them all together as engines. Performance covers so much more. Engines, chassis technology, tuning, heck, lots of things marginal for the title too, transmission works, nitrous questions, lots of everything related to performance. Don't split it due to block size.

what about the people over in the LS section?
let them stay there... who wants an ugly motor like that in a muscle car;)

I say stay the same
lots of good technical info from all families of engines.
if we separate the forum then we'll could have a chevelle and "other car section"
and NA & poweradder section
I think it would be too much.

How about another for aluminum heads vs iron, Holley carbs vs Edelbrock, headers vs manifolds?:p
Silly ideas but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.
Leave it alone.
