I have been thinking about where I'm gonna put mine. I just got a nice stock pair for the dash. I was considering buying a couple of 6X9's in boxes for behind the seats. It all depends ultimately on which radio/stereo I go with.

as of right now the only thing i have is a custom autosound usa-6 which is feeding their spare tire subwoofer which has a built in amp. been thinking about cutting sheetmetal out in the kickpanel area and putting speakers there, but that still leaves out rear sound other then the sub.

I made up a wood panel with "carpet" covering to mount my 6x9s behind the seat. The panel clamps to the lip under the rear deck and clips into the lip down on the back wall. So basically it angles in at the bottom. And no holes to drill, the clamps are reached through the speaker holes to install/remove.

how well does the spare tire fit with that panel installed pop d top? i still have to work on front speakers either putting a new set in the dash in the factory spots or down in the kickpanel. i was told a sound system in a el camino is a trickie thing to get done due to space.

I've got a skinny little 78 series tire for my spare and it does fine. I guess you could pick up a "donut spare" out of a boneyard and that should be no issue at all.

here is a few pics of whats been going in the elkie an old rampage cd changer http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/monte70car/009.jpg.
custom autosound spare tire subwoofer http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/monte70car/011-1.jpg might be small but it has good sound. the cd changer and the sub will be feed though a custom autosound usa-6 head unit which can be seen here http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/monte70car/dash003.jpg
now since we went with power windows we though why not go with power vent windows as well http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/monte70car/010-1.jpg as you can tell its goin to be a lazy mans/womans el camino. as you can see im really limited on space for rear speakers :(
