My son has a habit of injuring himself in unusual ways(IE diagnoses). He's played baseball for MANY years and is quite good. Anyway, while playing in college he hurt ihimself and like most athletes he continued to play. Coach pushed it as well. Anyway he managed to injure himself(osteitis pubis) to the point it requires surgery. This injury is most commonly found in soccer players. There are very few surgeons that perform this surgery and the one recommended to us is in Philidelphia. Were waiting on the specifics of who, what, were but Philly here we come. Any of you Philly guy got any advice? May have to liquidate some things to pay for it but hey it's my kid and like any parent we do whatever we need for our children. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks Pete

Stay away from Kensington, North Philly and West Philly, you're liable to get shot. I am guessing this will probably take place at the University of Pennsylvania.
nice way to be subtle Tom :D ..but good advice none the less..best of luck with the surgery

You know, them Philly guys say the same thing about New Jersey. :D

I'd like to add something helpful here, but my whole Philly leg of the summer trip lasted about 17 hours. Didn't get much done, didn't even get a cheesesteak. Wait, something I noticed of the hotels in Philly and Chicago. Set your wake-up calls 1/2 hour earlier than you actually want them to call. If you're checking out, it seems they'll call you 1/2 hour late, then you have to rush out without partaking of the continental breakfasts. That didn't happen in Nashville, though.

Some of the BEST medical care in the US is right here in Philly. WILLS EYE is TOPS in the country!

You have been advised well!

MC
I agree with Mike 110%! Some of the best medical care in the country is available right here in Philly! I also agree that he will probably be recommended to the University of Penn, (also known as HUP), which is an amazing hospital! Doctors from all over the world are broght there to learn since it is also a teaching hospital. My mom needed special care that called for a rare machine, and there were only 2 hospitals in the USA that had it, and one was HUP!
Thats the most popular one for situations like your son is in, but there are also several other great hospitals in the city.
I live 15-20 minutes away from HUP, and your welcome to stay here while your son is being taken care of, at no cost. Dont pay any attention to those who say that Philly is a dangerous place. Just like any other big city, it has bad areas. It just all depends on what part of town you go to.

Them Jersey guys always seem to forget to mention Camden New Jersey when they bash Philly's tougher parts of town.....:D

But truth be known, Philly is an awesome place with lots to offer and great sites to see. Trust me, I am born and raised here! :beers:
If I can be of any help, feel free to drop me an email!
Lots of luck to you and your son!:hurray:
Joe

Go Eagles!!!!!!.......:D....

How far is the airport from HUP? Once we make the arrangements it'll be time for me to make our arrangements. Today doctor said the first day is exam to confirm surgery, second day is surgery and third day if all goes well we head home. TIA

Joe your offer is extremely generous, Thank you!! Pete

Rothman Insitute is a Specialized Orthopaedic Surgical unit within Jefferson Hospital & University. Univ Of Penn specializes in more disease related healthcare. Right outside the City limits, Lankenau is one of the leading Heart Specialists in the country. Yes, we are fortunate to have a broad array of specialists available here.

My Mom had surgery done and it was botched. ....badly! We almost lost her. They sent her to Hahnaman (sp?) university hospital. They did an amazing job fixing her up. You're in good hands there. Center city is about, what, 1/2 hour from the airport. Straight up 95 then over Vine St. expressway. Don't know if he's still there, but there was a ukranian guy with a vendor cart at 15th and Vine that sold really good food dirt cheap.

I don't know what you're talking about, I've never been to Philly! ;)

Hey Pete!

Pete,
HUP is not very far at all from the airport. It may be best to stay off as many highways as possible, especially near rush hour time.
But from the airport, I would hit Bartram Ave to Passyunk Ave, then onto I-76. Follow to maybe a mile or two to exit 346A, which is a left hand exit onto South Street. About a 1/4 mile from the exit ramp if that, you'll run right into HUP which is located on Spruce Street and it takes up several blocks in itself. All in all I would say that from the airport, you would get to HUP in 15 minutes.
I assume you did find out that it is HUP that he is going to? If so, it's easier to get lost inside the hospital then it is to find the building itself! Here is a link with maps of the inside of the hospital that will really help you to figure out where you need to go!

For a Team Chevelle member, my doors always open. So dont forget the offer on the table! Just let me know! And if I am not working, I'd be happy to assist you guys to the hospital so you dont get lost or run late.
Thanks again,
Joe

Philly does have great medical centers. I just had Rothman do surgery on my shoulder at Methodist in Philly. I have to say it was great. They are a great bunch of people. I'm still not back to healthy yet, but I am progressing which is a plus. Best of luck.

Jefferso University was great to me when i had cancer in the early 90's at the age of 19. I spent a total of 3 months over a two year time in the hospital. Removed my hip socket and fused it with my leg. Saved my life and leg when other places wanted to take the leg. The doctor was Richard Lackman and i think he is with University of Penn now. Good luck and your in our prays.
