last Saturday got was told at urgent care that I have shingles.week on antiviral pills the blisters are drying up and scabbed over pretty gross. But my side is hurts, under my arms burn, stomach area burns and hurts. these aren't where the blisters are. And not constant, usually after I sit around, lay down or wake up. The burning feels like a bad sunburn.
so anyone else had the pleasure of shingles? and how long did the burn last? jim

Jim, I got them back early DEC and they were painful for about a month. I still have the scars on my side. I know what you mean how it hurts all around the sores. Skin is very sensitive to the touch. I have read it can be weeks or months, but I would say count on a good 30 days of varying discomfort. Also, be cautious of the "vid" since your immune system is compromised as well during the shingle period. Like stated earlier try the Caladryl Clear to keep the sores dryed up. It will pass...

Any of us that have had the measles as kids are subject to getting Shingles later on in life (and we're not talking about roofing here).Has anyone gotten the Vaccine for Shingles ? What's the deal with that, does it work ?
My older Brother just went through a case of them and we all had the measles around the same time as kids so I figure I'm next cause all 3 of us got the Measles at the same time.I'm told your stress levels has a lot to do with getting Shingles so that's another thing to consider with this mess.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you have had chickenpox, you may get shingles. There are shots to lessen your chances of getting shingles. Check with your doctor, but check with your insurance first. The shot (or shots) could cost $400 through your doctor, so price them from CVS also.

I had been on a two week business trip to China About 8 years ago. When I came back, I already had a follow up appointment with a dermatologist scheduled for a problem with my feet. Towards the end of the stressful trip where I didn’t sleep well and hated most of the food, I noticed a red area on my chest about 4-5” in diameter. I go to the dermatologist and I ask him what the heck this is. It feels and looks just like a bad sunburn. He says Shingles. Gives me a steroid shot in the rear and some pills to take. It never blistered and went away in about a week. No doubt that my high stress level and poor sleep caused the flare up. Fortunately I got to the Dr quick and also I’m sure once I was back home, my immune system kicked back in which is probably why it never progressed to the blister stage. If I didn’t already have that appointment, I’m sure I would have put it off.

JimMac, I just got a stab of the vaccine due to you! Thank you! a painful stab, relatively speaking in fact. But not like shingles. Reckoned it will be a while, if ever, when I get the covid stab, so I got shingles stab now. ( + 1 in two months)

I never had shingles but some several people I know did... My dad, and two of my friends had it and got treated early and they recovered rather quickly, but my father-in-law... he had it and waited too long to get treatment and 8 years later he still had it until he died last July without ever getting over it.

Keep your hands away from your eyes, that's the worst place to get it. It is contagious to others also.
Jim, This is a point I did not mention. You can pass this on by contact, so it's a good idea to wear a T-shirt to bed so wifey doesn't get this as well. As stated, if you catch it early, you kick it early. I went a couple weeks thinking it was poison ivy or sumac from working in the woods...so it was pretty well established before meds

A year or two back I had a pain that felt like a spear through my back and chest. Cardio problem ruled out and one doctor said it may be shingles. I said I had no rash or sores on my skin and he said there is a particular nerve that can be aggravated and not every case of shingles has rash or sores. I don't know about that but if shingles could cause this pain i wanted no part of it.

I asked about getting vaccinated at one pharmacy and the cost was $150 per shot and two shots were required a couple of months apart. My insurance would not cover it at this pharmacy. I called my insurance company and was told if I went to any of their "vaccination partners" it wouldn't cost me anything. I went to one and got the first shot and it didn't cost me anything. Check with your insurance to see if they offer the same. The shot wasn't bad and there were no side effects. I'm going for the second shot at the end of this month.

Yes, last summer a spot next to my ear canal and one on my chin. I thought it was a pimple or ingrown hair at first. When the one on my chin showed up my wife said she thought it was shingles. It was and I was 40. I attribute it to the stress of moving and changing jobs even though I don't really "stress" over things.

yep father had it and grandfather too. Friend of my wife has it now and for pain they say extra strength Tylenol AND Advil together.
It is a nerve condition and yes stress is a huge trigger.
I got the shinrex vaccinations last fall... Glad I did My wife's mum just passed away last week so lot's happening right now and we are on the other side of the Country from them and we are not allowed to go to funeral etc...
Very stressful time. And no insurance won't cover luxery items such as this injection so I paid the 300 bucks to get it done...so I am out a car part...
If you can afford it do the injection. damn Chicken pox

My Uncle got it and years later is still having problems with the fallout

Once you are over a certain Age 55 or 60 you should get the Injection
I got my 1st ones in 2016 May 09 – Prevnar PPSV 23 Vaccinated by my GP cost me $ 200.00
and 2017 Oct. 12 – Prevnar PCV 13 Vaccinated by my GP cost $ 200.00

A 2nd PPSV23 vaccine is recommended for certain individuals five years after the first PPSV23.

I have not but my wife has had them many times. She has had the shot but it only lessens the pain for her.
Almost got in her eyes but the meds got it under control before it made it that far. Lost a tiny tip off her nose.
Very painful especially until they come to the surfrce as blisters. Worst pain and blisters was around her mid-section.
Shingles are bad stuff for sure. Her dad had them very bad also.
Note, if you have them and get around someone that has never had the chicken pox, you will pass it on to them. You can also pass it on to babies that have not had the pox shot.
