Yep, finalized the deal today, got the check in the mail....Gonna take about 6wks or so for it to get built. After spending several days searching and reading the threads/responses about Mark engines here at TC and every other forum I could find, I called him twice and we talked a couple hours....I was sold on him. He is building it to suit my intended usage and hopefully it will make some serious power in a good street package. Shooting for 630hp with iron heads, hyd roller and a dual plane.

The next 6 wks will be the longest of my life...:D

Shoot'n to get this thing in the 10s with AC and stock appearance.

I ran "decent" 454 in a '71 AC car way back. Never ran it at the drags but did manage to eek out a 150+MPH top end blast. Car had 3.08 gears w/ T400. My biggest complaint with it was the underhood temps and heat that radiated through the firewall was unbearable. Just no way to get enough airflow to really keep it cool. Add to that, plug access with a big block in a Vette with headers is the worst. Sold it shortly after it was built and swore I'd never do another Vette unless it was SBC powered.

is the rear axle gonna handle that puppy? doesnt the vette have some kind of irs ?

Yeah its got IRS and NO it won't handle it...LOL:eek:

That will be the NEXT project after the motor/tranny/AC etc... I'll put the motor in and just drive it around on radials for a while, i won't be able to launch it on tires until I get the rear end done. The IRS rebuild with all the goodies is about $5k.....:sad:

If you don't have a tire that hooks you won't hurt the rear. If you want to run a DR or slick you will need a Toms Diff. Anyway looks like a really nice car, should be a riot.

Good choice,for that great looking vette you have there.

You can't go wrong with Mark because of his great motor building experience and also his customer service before & after the sale too.

Let us know how it performs atter you install the new motor and get it all sorted out.

Glad to hear you pulled the trigger on a 496 Vortecpro. I wouldn't worry
to much about the fit. They did come factory with BB's. Great investment for
the Vette too. :thumbsup:
Absolutely. In fact, stock Vette BBC exh manifolds are cast like shorty headers. Real high flow pieces. It was the swap to 2" tube headers that made it miserable. Trick back then was to give the stock manifolds a basic port job with emphasis on opening and smoothing the down-pipe connection. Just about the only option for headers were the Hooker header/sidepiipes. You either loved them or hated them. Everyone loved them for about a week.

PS - the one absolute mod that car is going to need is a much larger capacity alum radiator and high CFM electric fan setup. As much as possible. The other must have on a HIPO big block car is an open cowl hood. It doesn't really let cool air get into the engine compartment, it let's the heat get out. Unforetunate part is, all that heat gets directed at the front windshield and over the top of the car.

As I told you...I think you'll be happy. I tried to work it out to vist Mark's shop a couple of months ago but it didn't work out. Maybe when it's dyno time for yours I can plan to be in the area and help Mark abuse it....ahem,.......*break it in* for you!!

Hey Jim,

Mark is running at around 6wks build time right now so....I figure 2 months from now. If you happen to be around Colorado in 2 months, maybe you could swing by there and watch him ring it out on the dyno. Hell I am half ass tempted to fly up there to watch the dyno tuning myself but....I'll be too broke by then...:sad:

More importantly, you can help me get this heavy pig down the track and bring back a 10 sec slip...:thumbsup::beers:

Back 6-8 years ago or hell maybe more when I started this process 496's were the shizznat... now from reading around here is seems like everyone and their brother has a 496, even though I'm only getting mine on the dyno in the next month it might be time to look for something with a little more punch.

He apparently just doesn't have a listing up right now.
No website that I know of but there is some information about his 475 and 505 on my website, or better yet you can call him @ 1-719-650-1609 for pricing and more information. His name is Mark.
