The wire in question should be a #14 fusible link or part of is should be. It should connect to a junction block where a second red #10 wire also should connect. That wire is routed to the horn relay. Near the horn relay the same #10 red wire has a soldered junction where the #10 red wire from the alternator output and a #20 orange fusible link to the #3 terminal of the voltage regulator connects (if you have the optional gauges there will also be a #20 orange fusible link that is a connection for the amp gauge). At the horn relay there should be a #20 black fusible link connected to a #12 red wire that supplies power to the fuse block and the ignition switch and ultimately the coil, the start solenoid etc. Unless some other non-factory wiring supplies the power from the battery to the fuse block/ignition switch and connects to the alternator you need this wire.
Thanks guys, I have a new wireing harness and the wires you mentioned are there, but the block isnt. I found a new one in a catolog for $6.00. hopefully I can get this thing wired up now.
