I'm having hot-start problems. I have my fuel-pressure regulator right behind the alternator and it seems to get pretty warm after I run the car for 20 or 30 minutes. Does this sound like the issue or should I try a carb heat-shield? Car runs great, although I'm still having the same issue with it dying out when I nail it from a dead stop. It starts right back up, but I still don't know what's causing this.

Wait. You have a hot-start problem but when you nail it and it dies, it will start right up?

Under what conditions do you have trouble starting the car? Hot start problems are often heat soak to the starter solenoid or the battery cables.

Dying on acceleration: What do you have for a carb? Are the floats adjusted properly? Does the accelerator pump work?

Only hard to start when it's hot. It never gets very hot due to an aluminum radiator and an electric fan that's set for 190 degrees. I can start it and let it run in my driveway for 15 minutes before the fan ever cuts on. Once it cuts on it'll run for a minute or two and not come back on for another five minutes, so the engine never gets really hot, but the fuel may be getting too hot for the engine to like it due to the location of the lines. I'm running a Q-jet and I've adjusted everything to spec. The accelerator pump seems to work fine...great response. How do you tell if it's not right?

Coil? They do funny things when they're on the verge of giving up...

(I'm hardly ever right, though:wacko:)

Pull your fuel line when hot and check for vapor. Does the car crank normal or real slow? If slow, put a starter heat shield on it!! If normal with no fuel vapor. Coil isnt a bad guess, they usually crap out when warm. Pull out the old spark tester and look at the spark.
