Im building a 69 Chevelle street car. Looking for a motor until I came up on a LS7 454 GM crate motor brand new (0 miles) still in crate, purchased in the late 80's.
The price is a little more than its retail back then, but reasonable.

The person is asking $5,000. . . .

My concern is the power, can it run on pump gas, & is the compression too high !

PLEASE ANYONE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THIS MOTOR REPLY< YOU HELP AND KNOWLEDGE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Sounds like the going price. Retail back in the early '90's was $2200-2400, depending on dealer. Expect to freshen it up, and run airplane fuel or racing fuel with that 12.5:1 compression, and some 4.10's or lower. They were , and still are some powerful engines, BUT, they are a beast: high compression, HUGE cam profile. If It was me, I'd spend the $5000 on a new Hi-po 454, 425hp. crate engine, and be ALOT more streetable.

Plus it would probably come with some kind of warranty.
Don't the crate engines have a warranty with them?
