Hey guys, i am finishing up the install of my BBC and went to install the pushrod. Now i picked up this one probably about 2 years ago it is it a tubular rod with hardened tips. Now looking at the hardened tips it obviously has circular shaped grooves in the face on both ends ending in a little button almost on the end. What it looks like is that it was cut from bar stock on a lathe and when it got small enough in the middle the piece just broke off and left a little dimple in the middle.

Considering this runs against the fuel pump lobe on the cam i am figuring this should be a flat surface. I dont have the original one to compare it to. If you guys could let me know i would appreciate it. I have a summit order i am getting ready to put through, and i will add this to it if necessary. So shouldn't the face be flat and i need a new one? Thanks guys!

Just as an example, looking at this the face looks flat...

Dan,
That does not sound good. The pushrod rotates while moving, just like a valve lifter and every one I have seen is very smooth with a slight curcular pattern, just like a lifter. It should not have a "tit" in the middle. Sounds like a manufacturing defect to me. Get a stock pushrod, it will work fine.

Thanks Bill, that is what i was thinking, it looks like this one was just not ground flat on the ends. I will get one, thanks!
