I am slowly converting my 66' 402 to the short water pump version. I have an aluminum short pump, the water pump and balancer single groove pulley's (no power steeing).

Question: I set the water pump pully on the water pump and aligned the bolt holes. There is about less than a quarter inch of clearence from the pully and the pump on the left side. Is this normal? Do I need a spacer between the w/p and the pully? Lastly, does the fan bolt to the pully and then directly to the pump, with no spacer?

A simple question I know, but son and I want to do this correctly and hopefully only once:yes:

Thanks
Tod/Tyler :beers:

small clearance not an issue if water pump pulley turns without interferance and it lines up with the crank pulley.
the fan may bolt directly to the water pump pulley if no spacer is needed to position the fan in the radiator shroud, otherwise select a spacer of the proper length for fan and select proper length bolts to mount fan without bolts rubbing on the pump housing..........
