IMO your desired specs are a little off. A compressor in the 5-7 hp range is plenty for the home user. Anything over that will actually dim the lights in your house every time it kicks on.

You would also see some improvements by looking in the 60-80 gallon range. This would give you more air in reserve and run your high consumption tools better.

The IR stuff is nice, but there are many good brands to choose from.

Good luck! :)

I'd stay away from the Lowes compressor........I've gone thru 3 of them in less than 3 years. I got the best they had, it said it could handle anything.
When they fail, here's the scenario you'll get......call the store, get referred to the manufacturer (not available weekends), manufacturer says we'll have a repairman come out but don't know when, week later, manufacturer calls, can't locate anyone local, just take it back to the store (what fun!), we'll set it up with the store manager to give you a replacement. This last time, I took it back to the store. They took it from my truck, and the manager said just pick out the replacement and they will load it in your truck. They had none. He called surrounding stores, they had none. I asked for a refund, because I want a compressor now. Nope, no refunds.......just a store credit.
I got my current one at Graingers........haven't used it much, but it sure isn't as noisy, and pumps up faster. We'll see............

I bought a Ir about 6 years ago b/c I had a 30 gal craftsman that they said would run various tools. I specifically asked about a da and they said yes, well it did not and it was an oiless and very loud, so I got a 60 gal 5hp Ir and I love it. A little more $ yes but when I am in the middle of using an air tool I haven't had any problems. I bought mine at sears, I dont know if they still carry ir though.

Did you get the CH or the Kobalt? Mine runs great.

Fyi I bought the 22+cfm 2 stage from IR and had one motor go out before
the first year and replaced it and the second one about a year later and it
to went. Hobbiest only and it set more than it ever ran. I know IR's are
good most of the time but of course I got the toad:mad:

Anyway didn't want to throw more money into it as its out of warranty and
I'm really happy with this low bucks one. As good as an IR that has no issue's
no, but for the money not bad at all.

i went to the local costco to see about upgrading and right now they dont have any. here's the deal on buying one from coscto, i am shopping for my 4th compressor in 10 years and when i out grow one, i return it and they take everything back-even without a receipt! so its like i am long term renting it. since i am doing my body work now, i want one soon, the one i have is OK for a average home shop but i have more demand than the average home owner. I'm really tired of a loud compressor, yes mine is a oiless type. damn LOUD. i have seen/heard the screw type and they are very nice & quite. i am not worried about my lights blinking since my house is all electric; heat, A/C, hotub, dryer, range, H2O heater... the hot tub has a 6.5KW heater! on 50A breaker-no adverse action with that bad boy running, except maybe Lake Roosevelt might drop a inch or so. i have a availible 30A breaker 220V just waiting for a 8hp 60 gal. + comp. that is halfway quiet and less than $1K. i will be visting the costco in Fife, WA tomorrow, that is a store that is for business's and have seen some monster compressors there in the past. now i am worried my 454 is too big for my little ol' el camino...

This subject has come up a few times in the past, some people just don't GET IT when it comes to quality tools. You do have to pay extra these days (and in the past) to get something decent. That's why it costs more that the average brand. Why is it Sears, Costco, Sam's etc. are the main players here? Maybe it's all that advertising they brainwashed people with to convince the hoards that they are the only place to buy from.
I could be 100 miles away from the nearest retailer, I still would not buy from them if they did not carry a quality product, that's why it's EASIER now to shop the internet, research what's out there and so on. IR does make a good product, but I see that they make what appears to be different levels of a compressor, the sand colored ones & a silver series. I've owned a T-80 5 HP 80 gallon unit for 20 years, has held up great till just recently, motor blew out. But I wouldn't buy the sand colored version in the same size, they look (and cost) cheaper compared to what I have. There are other brands on the market that should do well to consider also, atlas-copco, Wayne, just as long as it is a cast-iron, oil-filled version with the minimum amout of CFM that you'll need. I would just start out doing searches on the internet with proper 'keywords' to see what distributors you can come across, some you may have to call for pricing & delivery options. But if your in a hurry, that will hurt you the most since you can't wait to find the better unit & price.

Which one did you get? I got the 80 gallon one and have not had any issues with it. I run it pretty hard too. Suprised to see you went through 3 of them

This is around a $750 to $800 two stage compressor, they will give you all the air you need, even keep up with a 100lb pressurized sandblaster pot.

But, this is my third one in 10 years, I put up several pictures so you can see the pump.

You will see this type of pump on a lot of them in this price range. I should have known better then to buy the third one, its running good, but that could change pretty fast.

If you can come up with the cash for a compressor in the $1200 or better yet $1400 range, you should get a lower rpm on the motor, probably quieter, and an all cast iron pump. I'm not going to say for sure, but an Eaton or Quincy is a pretty good bet.

This compressor is kind of like me, I'm 66 and running decent, but.

A $1400 dollar compressor will hang in there, spend the money and don't even look back.

Maybe costco in your area has not caught up but they have stopped this practice.

BTW, I think that equates to larceny. ;)

the only thing costco does not take back are computers & other related electronics after 6 months. they take everything back. when i return a item without a receipt, they can tell me no, thats their choice, but the hand me cash. i am not an attorney, but that aint larceny. feel free to ask about their return policy next time your in. i wont be selling my COST shares anytime soon either. but we are getting a little off subject...

And folks wonder why companies leave America, I worked at a place that had that program with places like Costco. It got to the point where we had to make a exchange center for the scammers.
I have had the same compressor 6hp 60gal for 7 years and a BIG blast cabinet. I finally went out and bought a gas compressor as a backup just for the blast cabinet. One of the issues with the cabinet was the 3/8" nozzle using LOTS of air. The 1/4" nozzle is now using less air and regular compressor will almost keep up.
