Right now I have a bench seat with a column shifter in my El Camino. I want to convert it to floor shifter with buckets, and have two questions.

1. Which shifter would you recommend?

Hurst Quarter Stick
or
B&M Pro Ratchet

2. Where can I find the brackets I need to add factory bucket seats and a center console (it's an 85)? Would it be easier to fabricate them or is there somewhere that sells them?

I have a hurst vmatic2 shifter and I really like it. You can switch between gate a ratchet mode which I find really handy because ratchet is good at the track but a pain on the street.

Check Ground up, Year one, etc - most Chevelle suppliers have the seat brackets

I also would suggest the V-Matic 2...had one on my '64 El Camino, and I loved it. The dual mode feature was great, and it was easy to use, not to mention I thought it looked killer. I have a Hurst Quarter Stick (B&M Quarter Stick is also basically the same design) in my '65 Chevelle race car, and while it's a great shifter, I would think it would be a pain in the butt in a street car, mostly because of the necessity to use both hands to operate the reverse lockout.

Is it possible that your el camino has the split bench (60/40) like my Monte SS has? If so you won't need any floor brackets as the bench seat uses the same mounts as on a bucket seat. As for shifters I have the B&M Pro Ratchet in my 68 Chevelle and like it. My buddy has the Hurst in his 56 PU and it seems to be at least of similar quality but it costs a little more. The 56 is full manual so it gets shifted a lot and he has never complained. Good Luck with you seats.

It's a full bench.

The dual gate shifter sounds really cool. I'm going to take a trip to jegs to see what it's like.

Still trying to find the floor brackets for seats/console.

Slushbox... don't think so.

One day I might change it to a manual, but only when I get enough money to make it a pro-touring car. Until then I need a shifter for my turbo350, or slushbox as you call it.
