I play guitar in a rock band but sometimes my singer and I do acoustic shows. Out of respect for the recently deceased we play a "dead guy" set. Last night we practiced for an upcoming show and were thinking we needed to add some new songs from dearly departed rock stars. Of course, Van Halen came to mind and I wanted to do "Take Your Whiskey Home" but the singer was not too familiar with it. He mentioned "Shakin" by Eddie Money and it was pretty simple for us to whip out from memory. What was really cool is that I had not watched the video in ages and behold, in the video is a sweet late 70's Malibu Classic. It's also the same color as my first Chevelle: a 75' Malibu Classic. Oh yeah.. the girl in the video was not bad either:)
So is this a 76 or 77 Malibu Classic?

Dean, I'm pretty sure John Fogerty is still alive
Yes he is. Nearly 76 and still Rockin' All Over the World - when this plandemic fraud is flushed.

Bucket List concert for me. (y)

I saw Fogerty ion the cover of a guitar mag about 10 years ago. He looked 40-ish and fit. No wonder he still tours.
Last concert I saw before this mess was Pat Travers. He had great hair that did not match his weathered face. He is very much alive and still tearing it up.

Some "dead guy" material just doesn't fit into our style. When the guy from Earth Wind and Fire passed, we had to skip, but we are up to learning "Kiss an Angel Good Morning" by Charley Pride. I am really looking forward to doing VH "Take Your Whiskey Home". That is such a cool song. Check this incredible live version out by John 5, featuring original VH bassist Michael Anthony, and a guy from my state of Iowa, Corey Taylor: Take Your Whiskey Home - Live cover

One of my friend's son's band called Pompous Jack
What a fun song to play! We don't do too much 60's stuff but at one time or another we did Hey Bulldog, Paperback Writer, and Helter Skelter. One of my favs we did from that era was Won't Get Fooled Again. I had to finger pick the keyboard parts and the bass player (a huge Who and John Entwistle fan) screamed it with zest! Our version of The Doors People Are Strange was my punked up and always took people by surprise.

CT sounds wayy better than DLR, I seen VH a couple times in the 80's with DLR but would've loved seeing SH with them, DLR had a Jack Daniels bottle and looked like he was drinking from it when they played a few songs and one was Bring Your Whiskey Home, DLR could really do those big jumps like in the videos

Those guys really did the cover justice. DLR was always fit (I think he practiced martial arts) and his acrobatics were better than his inconsistent singing. Is it just me or does DLR today look similar to Keith Carradine?

I can't tell a 76 from 77. My friend in HS bought a loaded 76 because he loved my 75. He had the swivel buckets. I also remember it had some sort of a "fuel economy" gauge. Like any of us cared about mpg in HS.
