Hi guys, I'm new here - name is Paul and I own a 71 Chevelle, with a new zz454 I'm dropping in this week, and have changed the whole drivetrain, but haven't touched the body and am thinking about painting the whole thing once I'm finished...

I don't mean to step on any toes on my first post, but I've searched a lot and only found one reference to anyone modifying, shaving, deleting, "frenching" or otherwise messing with the turn signals on the 71. I heard there was one '71 that sold at BJ that had the signal lights shaved, but alas, I can find no pictures.

I am really really curious to see how something like that would look - anyone want to help me out finding a pic, photoshopping, or anything else other than telling me to get lost?

I promise I will try to contribute to the forum, but after searching around for literally weeks (and finding some really great advice on here, thanks guys) I figured I would pose the question to you guys.

Thanks in advance! :)

Paul

Thanks for the advice - fortunately all I do all day is deal with legal issues, so I'm well aware of the laws in CA. In fact, I'm very aware that just about everything about my car is illegal, from the lack of a front plate, to the db rating on the exhaust, my exhibitions of speed, and on and on...

Anyone else? I'm still looking for anyone who has altered the front turn signals on the 71 or 72 Chevelle or El Camino - thanks!!

Wow - thanks Matt! That actually happens to be my exact color combo with the stripes and everything. Must have read my mind.

I gotta be honest, I really like it :) I wonder where I would re-route the turn signals though, and in what form...
That doesn't mean I"ll end up actually doing it, but definitely puts my weeks of searching to rest. I really appreciate your help!

Man...the internet is one crazy tool with the write people involved!!

I'm still thinking about doing this. I know it is blasphemy, but I was originally thinking about doing a 71/70 conversion to the front - this would make it just a custom front end instead a 70 "clone" - I wonder which would be received better. I was thinking of shaving the turn signals, and then putting small (possibly 70-esque) signals in the bumpers...

Just trying to think outside the box. The one and ONLY thing I don't like about my 71 is the "egg yolk" side lenses that mess up what is otherwise a clean and crisp two color car all around.

The other option is to "clear" the side lenses so there is no yellow in them any more. Anyone seen this done?

Again, sorry for this being my first few posts and possibly upsetting the originalists, but I've been lurking here for over a year and searching just about every night for everything under the sun. I'll post a full build when the 3inch exhaust for the zz454 is done on monday!

Ha! Did I say monday? Engine is almost done.

I just got new headlights from Fesler and new side markers from OPGI - I'm thinking about popping out the yellow section of the reflector to make it clear - a small step towards my mod.

I know everyone will just say "get a 70", but I've put a ton of time and effort into the 71 and I still have the sense that the only thing messing up the streamlined nature of the color scheme (from silver/black wheels and tires, silver paint, black stripes, black interior, silver and black motor accessories, brushed aluminum air cleaner, etc. etc.) are the damn yellow reflectors. I guess some of us just have OCD.

How about this - IF I were to go through with it, and because I might one day want to sell it, does anyone have an opinion on what which would hurt the resale value less? a whole 70 front clip conversion, or a shaved turn signal + 70 front bumper signal mod?

I recognize I'm probably treading on a lot of toes. If you don't like it, feel free to move on to another thread!
