I have a set of wheels for sale, and I've been getting quite a few scammers e-mailing me. Your basic "I'm interested in the auto parts for sale." They want to send me a check for say $3500 bucks, I take the $800 for the wheels, plus $100 more because he's such a nice guy, and then I wire transfer the rest to his shipper to have them picked up....Now I know its a total scam. But my question, what if I took his cashiers check, cashed it, then didn't do anything? I just cash it, then put that money under my bed or something?

I dont plan on doing this....just got to thinking about it....

Better open a new bank account before you wire him anything, all he really wants is your checking account number so he can make a nice withdrawl. Did he say Cashiers check or just check? If he sends you a check and you deposit it and send him some cash he gets the cash and when his check doesn't clear you get hit with the debit!

I understand how the scam works....I lose out on money and my parts.....but I'm just thinking is there a way to scam a scammer? Like cash his phoney check, but not into my bank account, and just walk away....Too risky for me, but I was just curious if you could do that...

Ebolamonkey.com maybe of help to you. He jerks these guys around so badly amd has fun doing it.
For now just tell them to send the check and when you get it wait 7 days to say it finally showed up. Your bank now wants you to wait 10 days for it to clear, you will never hear form them again. Or tell them that you deposited the check and the FBI/IRS has frozen your accounts. You will be clearing this up matter up please be patient it may take a couple of weeks. Wait untill the check arrives and have your probate lawyer send them a email of your passing. He will be settling your estate matters for now and he will have to wait for matters to settle with the court.

Yep, the check is phony and by the time it clears, he has your wheels and your account is debited. That scam has been around for more than a decade.
What he said...

Yeah I know this is an old scam....Actually about two months ago I messed with one. I told him my name was one of the South Park characters, my address was the White House, and I kept changing the item and price. I had a blast....but he eventually stopped e-mailing me.

Why cash it? Just keep it. Or better yet say you never received it see if he will send you another one. Ask hime to send it via registered mail that way it costs him more money. You could tell him that you are just trying to make him feel comfortable about trusting you. :D

Well with that information in your pocket, common sense should tell you to walk away and forget about it. One would think you would have better things to do than try to jack with a scammer.

I believe you wanted to burn some guys barn/shop down, so I guess you don't have anything better to do either.

Well, one could also think you might have something better to do than sit around on a computer too. :) All I was getting at, was whether or not there was some way to mess with these scammers. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Hey I have a new idea on messing with scammers. Have them send checks to some of the Libs who they don't know. Imagine how much fun it would be for the head of the senate Harry Reid getting checks from all over Nigeria. Or Nancy Pelosie getting loads of bad checks sent to her office. Al Gore getting all these funds for carbon credits and they all wind up costing these folks money in the end. Hey maybe they would actually do something about this crap the other half of America deals with daily. This is my new way to deal with these jokers.
