I have a set of vicotr jr heads on a 383, I am looking for some headers. The heads appear to have a square exhaust port (hope that is correct terminology). Some headers have round ports and some have square ports. Will either one work?

I am running 1 5/8's with round ports and they block the my exhaust port in all 4 corners. I tried the Hooker Super Comps 1 3/4 2116, their ports were oval they fit the port better but the one pipe hit my wedge style oil pan. I wasn't prepared to modify or cut an expensive set of headers so I took them back. I tried Hedman 65101 1 3/4 and they would not clear my angle plug heads. So I am still running my Hedman 1 5/8 68290's they block the port but they fit well.

The Hooker super comps lots of times have a square port. Look for a 1 3/4" size.

So I may lose some performance if I go with oval port headers on my square port heads but they will seal though correct? Would I use the square header gasket to match the heads or the round header gasket to match the headers? Looking at either a set of Hooker 2116 or a set of Hedman 68296 or 66294.

The 66294 are the torque step headers they are even worse for port matching . They start out at 1/2" then go to 1 5/8. The 68296 are the same as my 69290's except they are coated. The ports are round they do work but they do block the exhaust port on your head because it is square. The 2116 Hookers will fit the port the best , but if you have a kicked out style oil pan it will interfere. Use the gasket that comes with the header.

Dave, I think I am gonna go with the hedman 68296, might lose a little in performance but biggest key is knowing they will fit. I think the header and power steering note is maybe for the steering shaft (only thing I can figure)
