I use to glass bead and paint, last a couple of years. Finally broke down and had them ceramic coated (factory cast iron look) Cost $85.00 and this is forever. Depending on budget, I did not want to spend the money. Then after pulling the manifolds off every two years, Jacking up the engine, cleaning and painting, putting them back on. Pulling the manifolds off of a 70 LS-5 with air and power steering. It was a PITA job. I even did the manifold bolts in black ceramic. Again depending on budget. Mine will never come off and YES they do look nice. Bob ACES--AACA
P.S. My 70 driver, I use Eastwoods Stainless manifold paint.

I was told sand blasting would be to harsh so I had a place that uses plastic blast them. Immediately after I got them home I stuck them in the oven to get out all the moisture and painted them with VHT exhaust manifold paint after they cooled alittle. Once painted I baked them. One year later so far so good. I tried the alumunum coating but didn't like the finished look.

VHT makes a nice cast iron colour for exh. manifolds. I use it on my headers and full exhaust (not trying to look stock!), it lasts a long time. Make sure you get the exh. manifold one, they also make an engine paint one too... Ceramic coating sound very worthwhile to never have to touch them up again!

Bob,
Any contact info on the manifold coating? Did they "blast" the manifolds, or did you clean them yourself, prior to having them coated? $85 each?

Thanks...

PS, I bead blasted several sets of manifolds and painted with Eastwoods Stainless manifold paint. IMO, looked great (not sure if it was 100% authentic looking) AND lasted several years. Looked great up until I got rid of the cars. One car was even my mother's "daily driver" '84 Ford Crown Vic Wagon (I was rebuilding the engine around the same time as I was doing my exhaust, so I did her's too)...

Had the exhaust manifolds coated on the '66 recently...a natural cast grey finish.
Sandblasting is a must. The manifolds must be clean for the ceramic coating to take. Cost me $125 including the blasting and was done locally.
