I removed the interior out of my 70 Chevelle today. The interior sheet metal looks very good overall. Original paint and primer. Some surface rust at drivers feet and passengers feet with 2 or 3 small pin holes of rust through.

With so much good original paint I'm thinking of just blasting the rusted areas and depending on the result, weld in some homemade patch panels and reseal and paint.

The underside of the body will be fully bead blasted and re sealed and painted. Is my approach sound??? Thanks!!

i agree with bill. i cleaned my original floors with a wire wheel on an angle grinder. if you don't have an angle grinder, buy one. a drill only turns about 1/10th the speed. it's a dirty job, you'll be covered in soot by the time you are done. it took me about 3 hours to do the whole interior. i then brushed on POR 15 since no one will be seeing the floors and protection is the name of the game here.

You have a good plan going. The sand blasting and small patch repair is the route I took on my Chevelle. Sandblasting will remove ALL the rust on the floor boards. Yes it is messy but it does a great job of complete rust removal. Don't forget to sand blast the under side too!

Good Luck :D
