Keep it clean, dry and covered when parked.

yes Clean and washed...so it doesn't keep dirt in the lower corners where it meets the windshields both front and rear...That is where these love to rust usually the drivers side in the front by the piller and the rear lower corner by the upper trunk lid.
Also try to keep it out of direct sunlight if it is original and starting to crack or get brittle.
Try not to get water in a crack if there are some...Also if someone painted it it will crack faster than if it was original as it dries out.
If it has cracks...it is already too late to save it but seal the cracks after it dries out so no more water gets in...Use a tape to seal it then when warmer weather and money arrive...new vinyl roof like Rick said...
What colour roof are you asking about?
Black seems to last longer than the white maybe stays cleaner?

303 Protectant is a great product that protects against the sun. Use it every month or two and it will protect your roof for many years.
