I might buy some heads off some guy but he didn't paint them and they rusted. Can these things be saved?

sure. where is the rust you're concerned about? on the outside? under the valve covers?

it's on the outside, some inside the valve cover area and really light on the flat surface near the chambers. Overall the rust looks light from the junk pics I saw.

My heads, 781's, sat in a garage for 10 years. They were put in a vat and then shaved .010 to get rid of some pitting. All new components put in.
Looking good now.

how much does a rebuild and valve job cost? Does anybody know of a good machine shop in riverside or san diego areas?

If my original motor can be saved and made to look like this after sitting 30+ years in the guys front yard, And had to soak the engine over a month in the hot tank and beat the pistons out, and installing 2 sleeves. I would say they can be saved.

I had my 3919840,s rebuilt for $700 US.They were degreased and the 2.190/1.71 valves where replaced with manley swirl 2.250/1.880.The heads were shaved a few thousands and we reused my springs but replaced the locks and retainers.The price included a competition grind and PC seals installed.This was at a Michigan shop.Hope this helps you.:thumbsup:
