this weeks project - got 2 steel inner fenders, typical rust but better than my cracked/busted plastic ones for my 70 el camino. since they are not a very visible component, try to finish them without a lot of time or $. i pressure washed 'em, bought a qt. of metal ready. wire brushing them soon poss. tonight. thinking that after i soak them w/ the acid, rinse. either rattle canning them with paint. should i prime with rattle can primer too? planning on using bondo spray can undercoating @ underside. dont want to use por15 on the bad areas or must i? anybody do this and regrete it later? wont be using my epoxy primer on this either. will scotch brite/wont sand. thanks. John.

I had mine sand blasted and went from there.

If the metal is sand blasted you won't need the metal ready. Besides it makes it easier to weld up bad spots. I POR'd mine (both sides) after some small repairs, and top-coated (the engine side) with some rattle can black while it was still tacky. Won't need undercoating.

But if you got more time than $, a scotch brite to take the shine off and a wire wheel/grider where you need to make rust go away. POR over painted metal is wasting POR. That stuff needs clean metal.

heres what i did today; got out the sm. cup wire wheel-harbor freight-(didnt lose a single wire!) and the dewalt drill and went to town. hit it with the scotch brite rollock w/angle die grinder. soaked w/ metal ready for 1/2 hr. rinsed, primed w/ rustoleum prof. primer and top coated w/ rusto. prof. enamel semi G blk. took some time but not much $. looks pretty dang good. kept the lid on the por15 & not going to undercoat. if they look half this good a few years from now, i will be happy. most of the rust was in areas that are not visible. putting them on tomorrow night. thx. John.
