Imagine my surprise when I popped the cap off! :-( I should have sprayed it down w/ WD40 or something....crap!!
From the MSD site..........

Keep in mind when using a high engery ignition that the energy passing through the distributor cap is greatly amplified. As the energy arcs from the rotor tip to the distributor cap it ionizes the air within the cap. If the air under the cap does not vent out sufficiently then the ionized air will oxidize the metals, combined with moisture in the air the oxidation process is accelerated.
I would look into getting a vented cap.

Tech support at MSD will recommend either a vented cap or drilling some holes in the cap (they'll say where). I used to have one of these distributors. Mine was corroded too and by report even with a vented cap it will corrode again after cleaning. I switched to and HEI with no loss of power and much less maintenance.
