I have a 1970 chevelle with a 396/350hp with a th400. i also have a Rochester 4bbl with number 7040202. I think this number makes sense based on what i see decoding it, but two things don't make sense:
1. The last digit is supposed to be even for an automatic, but what does the number really mean. I see more commonly used 7040204 for th400. does anyone know what the last digit is supposed to stand for?
2. The other stamping is J9 and DH. so the J9 should be Sept '69. what is the DH. Also the engine build date is A-29-70. Could the carb be that far ahead of the engine? I heard there was a strike, so may be they sat on a shelf for a while. The carb is a Rochester, built by Carter.
Any advice thoughts would be appreciated.
