Big fan, loved the Doors. Sad, heard this earlier today, "When The Music's Over" They had such a great sound for the time, and still sound good today, That's the mark of great music.

RIP.... Ray

Ray was taken from us by bile duct cancer, the same bastard that took Mom. Cancer in any form is a heartless witch.

RIP Ray, you made the world a better place with your music.

Yep, and IMO Ray should receive double credit, with that great left hand bass work. Hard to even imagine a band today without a dedicated electric bass. For Ray, carrying the bass line was just another day at the office.

Ray carries that iconic stature much like Ginger Baker or Jack Bruce. If you followed The Doors you knew who he was. That cannot be said for a lot of non guitar players of the time.

I read an interview Ray gave a few years back, he reflected on their first studio session, just after "Light My Fire" had hit it big. The person doing the interview asked him how the album cut of Light My Fire, (which went on, and on, and on), came about, and Ray said, 'we only had about 6 songs we could actually play, and we had to fill an entire album. so, I just kept going on and on, until I had enough time used up on that side".

Pretty down to earth guy.

Saw them in 1967 at Anaheim Convention Center.
Now THAT is really cool!

I didn't show up on the planet til '71 & I really envy anyone who was fortunate enough to see those great bands in their prime.

I'm talking about way before they all broke up, then kissed & made up for some BS Corporate Reunion Tour. :boring:

I recently saw the Eagles for the first time & boy are they ever the poster children for mailing it in & collecting a big fat check. After the show, I read online that they haven't altered their setlists by more than a song or two in over 5 years. I digress...
