restoring/painting 66/67 dog dish caps

Do any of you guys have any tips on restoring/painting 66/67 dog dish caps. How do you get minor scratches out? Any templates for masking prior to painting? Tips on what to use to mask? Painting tips? Gloss of black? I was quoted #125-$200 per cap by one company, so looking at trying to do it myself. What is the composition of the caps? Are they chrome plated stainless steel or what? Thanks.

Hey Jim,
I believe the caps are stainless, but I could be wrong, I am sure these could be machine polished or buffed to get rid of light scratching.
These are really easy to paint. but a little hard to describe technique here in text. I will PM you my phone number, and you can give me a call if you would like to. I am in Minnesota too.
