Need some advice please, bought some repro window crank handles and yes they are less than perfect. They are reasl lossy goosey and occasionaly "pop off" compared to the originals. Is there any way to fix this like maybe wedge some paperclip in between the handle and gear shaft?

Marc,

See my reply to the same question in the Restoration Corner section. As noted, supposedly you can still get the black knob version directly from GM. If you need the clear, the solution may very well be to buy the black handles and swap out the knobs.

You could possibly try wadding up some aluminum foil and then straighten it out and place it on the gearshift. Then try screwing on the handle knob and see if it tightens up any. I did that a Loooooong time ago and I seem to remember it worked pretty good. Not perfect, but good.

Here is what I did. Remove the knob.. Drill and tap for 8/32" or something close, Then get a small washer and curve it just a little, Now a little loc-tight on the screw and tighten untill tension feels just right.
I did this to my driver handles 5-6 years ago and they are still fine & you kant see the screw head.......... Also, There are many other ways, This one worked for me.

I did the drill out the black handle ones and installed the clear knobs. But I also did some checking and it depends on the brand of repo you buy. I finally found some from True Connections that seem to fit and work well. The first ones I tried were junk.

The cranks we bought from Ground Up looked close to stock but when we tried to install the clips kept popping off. After closer inspection, I realized that the geared pocket in the crank was not as deep as the stock crank and that was causing the handles to fall off. Does anyone know where we can get black handled cranks that were actually built like the originals? (or black knob replacements)

I ground a little off of the end of the shaft (after figuring out that the pocket in the repro handle wasn't letting it seat). Went a little at a time 'til it fit. Took some time, but I'd already screwed around with the MO....F.....S for 2 hours, so what the hell.
