Guys

whats the "word on the street" as far as a replacement fuel tank for my 1972. No EFI equipment needed just a simple bolt in replacement for my tank.

Also need a recommendation on a quality sending unit for the car.

Thx

I ordered one from autozone and 3 days later the canceled the order because of the weather in Canada (spectra) I ended up cleaning mine up. Washed it out. Wasn't that bad. Shipping cost are crazy now.
Good luck

I hear horror stories about freight charges on large items lately....will check Rock Auto and see what they quote. If Spectra is avail at Summit I likely will drive down there and avoid all the freight $$$
Well Summit's shipping policy is anything over $99.99 shipping is free. Dont know if that has changed or if they have this item as over sized. I used to always get my items shipped from Summit. However since all internet sales are taxed and their Talmadge store is only 17 miles from where I work I many times just drive to that store.

I bought my tank from Summit a few months ago and even though it qualified for free shipping, there was a $20 over-size fee. I only live 30 min away but I'm lazy so I paid the shipping.

Summit Racing. Get the Off brand tank, its the same as the Spectra Premium.. You want the one with three vents across the front top. Plug the end ones up and put a gas filter on the center one and mount it as high as you can get it. This will take care of any venting issues. I also use a vented cap..

This is the tank for the el Camino #890-3770 Look up the one for the Chevelle..

Just one more thing to keep in mind, IF originality is a concern, many of the replacement tanks are coated on the outside, where as the original tank is the bare galvanized steel. The Spectra tanks are the correct bare steel. I could have gotten a really good deal on a Dorman, but they coat theirs. If you care about such things, be sure to read the fine print.

Whatever the finish Spectra has, it looks OEM. As for Dorman, ,their tanks may be made in China, but I have never had an issue with a Dorman part. We even use their replacement parts on class 8 trucks.

I gotta say that I never had an issue with Dorman products. Then I have to add that that experience was "back in the day" maybe long before stuff was outsourced to China. So many names we knew and trusted are now made over there.....don't let me get started on THAT topic.
