On my '70, the washers are stuck on. If I turn on the wipers, it will pump the washer bottle empty. This happens even with the wiring disconnected. I assume it to be mechanically engaged/stuck somehow. Is there a commonly known problem and suggested repair? TIA!

Sounds as if one of the pump cam parts has fallen/broken off. Pull the black plastic cover carefully in case there are loose parts inside. If it is broken Ground Up was selling rebuilt pumps at one time, I can't remember the price. Also, Trico makes an electric pump that fits right where the mechanical pump sits, it pumps a steady stream instead of pulsating like the mechanical, though. Checker auto was selling those, hope this helps.
