Don't know what forum to post this in, so bench racing seemed OK.

I have a 3-ton engine hoist. It is the kind that uses a long ram hydraulic cylinder on it. The problem is that the hydraulic fluid leaks out of the bottom fitting that you loosen when you want to lower the cylinder. I have the fitting as tight as can be, but even then, the fluid leaks out of it when the cylinder is in it's uncompressed state. I pulled that plug out, cleaned inside the hole, but the rubber plug on it still leaks. Where can I get replacement parts for these things? There is no brand name on it. The only thing on the sticker is LRJ-3S. I guess that means long ram jack 3 ton.

John,
I clicked on that link and found a pic of the hoist they were selling. Yep, that is my hoist. They sold it in July, unfortunately, it gave no manufacturer info.

Aaron,
So you will be banging gears soon? Take your time. Did I also give you that orange plug for the rear of the Muncie to keep the gear lube in when you tilt it? I can't find mine.

Jim, you might want to pull it back apart, and take the seal down to your local bearing and seal shop. They can probably match it up. I had a ram go bad before, and the couple of rebuilders around here wouldn't touch it, because it was "cheap metric chinese junk." But I've had success with walk-ins to the local bearing supplier.

You know, when I saw that, I thought it was for something else because of the $900+ pricetag. I guess the military pays 6X for everything. There goes my tax dollars again. :(
....anyway, I gave them a call and the guy I need to speak with is not available until tomorrow. I'll try again then. Thanks!

That one sold used for about 1/6 of the listed price so it really sounds like a nice piece.

Mine leaks in the same place.

I finally gave up on trying to stop the leak and made a drip pan to keep the fluid off the floor.

The problem is there is no packing nut to compress the rubber bushing seal and no threads in the hole to screw a packing nut into.

Mine came from Sam's Club and I suppose it was probably made in China. :(

You can get a complete new LR jack for about 40.00
Go to http://google.com and plug in Long ram jack.

You are correct. I took it apart again and looked at it. Just a straight shot in the bore, no taper or other way to compress that thing. If I can't get a new seal for it, I'll end up buying a new ram and put it in my hoist. Gonna call the place mentioned above again on Wednesday and see what they say.

My Harbor Fright one doesn't leak :p

Maybe an O-ring instead of the gasket? Did they just get the wrong part in there when they assembled the thing?

How about checking the Help aisle at the local parts store for a plastic oil pan washer.

It just looks like a washer ion that pic. It goes into the bore of that hole about 1/2". It is more like a hard rubber plug.

Aaron,...no I don't need it back right now. Just making sure I knew where it was.

Should have been designed like a plumbing valve stem packing, then you could snug the nut down once in a while.
But that would have cost too much. :(
