I updated more pictures.From the looks of the corrosion around the water passages, I would almost bet dinner that this was a marine block in an earlier life. I would be more concerned with the condition of the outside of the cylinder walls, in the water jacket area.
that bolt hole in the 3rd pic doesn't look to have much in the way of threads in it. You really married to that block? I wouldn't start with something that rough unless there were no choice. Like a matching numbers Vette or something.
I hear ya. It was sitting outside for around 5 years under a tarp with holes. When I drained the oil there was a ton of water that came out then the oil. pretty much the whole block was full. If that matters. I posted some other pictures of the engine.Marc,
When you work on them every day, the marine engines stick out like a sore thumb. The corrosion around the water passages is the big giveaway. The only thing that eats a block up like that is river or ocean water running through it![]()
