Do you think this is going to be a problem? As I was cleaning up the block for inspection I noticed a weld between the water jacket and head bolt. There is more meat between the water jacket and head bolt on this side. If yo look close you can see the size of the water port before. From what it looks like will this be a problem? I also found 1 heli coil on the other side in one of the head bolts also. What do you think??????

From the looks of the corrosion around the water passages, I would almost bet dinner that this was a marine block in an earlier life. I would be more concerned with the condition of the outside of the cylinder walls, in the water jacket area.
There is a bunch of rust in there. How can you tell it could have been a marine block? I updated more pictures.
that bolt hole in the 3rd pic doesn't look to have much in the way of threads in it. You really married to that block? I wouldn't start with something that rough unless there were no choice. Like a matching numbers Vette or something.

Nope not even dating yet. The threads ar all the same depth. It's just the picture. I doesn't look like theres anything wrong with it. I was just wondering how strong welds are. I may let it go and search for my 4 bolt....
When you work on them every day, the marine engines stick out like a sore thumb. The corrosion around the water passages is the big giveaway. The only thing that eats a block up like that is river or ocean water running through it :(
I hear ya. It was sitting outside for around 5 years under a tarp with holes. When I drained the oil there was a ton of water that came out then the oil. pretty much the whole block was full. If that matters. I posted some other pictures of the engine.
