My trunk lid is abit off level. The passenger side is alittle higher than the fender at one point while on the opposite side its alittle lower than the fender at one point. We removed the trunk lid and tried adjusting it by moving one side up and it didnt work. The trunk lid is not bent or anything I believe its the arms that hold the trunk. How do I remove these (also need to paint them) i noticed the two bars that go across the top of the trunk is this the part that needs to be taken out if so how would i do it? Also does anyone else know what might be the problem of the trunk lid?

Thanks

I have restored chevelles for the last 4 1/2 years and have never seen bent trunk hinges. If one of the torsion bars is broke it won't sit correctly but usually it's a bent trunk lid.Is it a repro lid? They are junk, I just put one on a 68 and had to cut more than 1/4 inch off the end and weld the edge up to get the gap correct.

you can place a shim under either the front or back bolt, one way raises the lid, the other one lowers it-cant remember which, but not hard to figure out-
start with a 1/16 shim, just loosen the bolt, slide it in

I've adjusted the trunk arms on my 68 Camaro when I added a rear spoiler. I used a piece of tubing to slip over the open end and cranked it down to the next position. As mentioned above though, your not going to get any trunk adjustment from the torsion bars, got to shim or bend the arms slightly.
