I'm looking to get rid of the electric pump on the 69 Chevelle I bought recently. Its got a fresh 355 with a Comp Cams 268H, Edelbrock carb and intake, just the basics.

What would you recommend is a good meechanical fuel pump for me? The car is just for the street but I want to romp on it occasionally... you know the drill.
:beers:

The Carter or even the stock with the inlet port opened up to 1/2"..

This worked like a charm for me.. Install a tee into the inlet, then run two 3/8" steel tubing lines to the tank. Have the tank sumped with dual 3/8" inlets or even better, install a RCI aluminum fuel cell in the trunk. They come with a dual sump and the correct sending unit for the GM gas gauge.. I was amazed at the difference two 3/8" lines made on my old 64 Pontiacs 462 with Quadrajet.. Being able to see the gasoline and filling up from either side of the car was so nice..

What gph rated pump do I need? 40? 120? 172? What kind of pressure? I don't know about these things.

Thanks!
Divide your max expected hp by 12, that will give you the gph you need, then factor in 10 to 20% more for wiggle room. But, it has to be gph AT the appropriate pressure, for carbs that's around 3 to 4.5 psi. The major issue is that there are very few pump manufacturers that provide gph at a certain psi. Due to marketing, all they provide is free flow gph, or gph at 0 psi. No fuel system operates at 0 psi. One place to look for data or test results is on RobbMc's website. He gives pump test flow data at proper pressures, if you click on the various pumps and their flow charts.

I used carter, holley, summit, jegs and edelbrock all worked good. The summit and jegs 110, 130 and 170 looks just like holleys.

The stock 40 gph Carter will feed a hi-performance small block. More expensive pumps are a waste of money and excessive pressure will cause problems.
Don't over-think this.
