GUYS/GALS,as some of you already know summit has been selling thier own house brand of hi perf oil for perf FT cams that was mfg'd by Spectro oil in CT and bottled under summit's name that summit recently discontinued selling for the most part only having a litltle single 30wt oil left over when i last looked a few days ago.

So i asked Summit why they discontinued selling the oil and was it because of any kind of quality issue with the oil so i would know not to use it anymore and or to also post any info on it here in t/c too so here's the responce i got from summit tech staff pasted below.

Scott

================================================

There was no quality issue with the oil. I was told that it was simply due to a lack of demand for it.

Thanks,
Mark

EVERYONE and their grandma is jumping on the high zinc/phos FT cam oil, just to make money:sad:. I would never buy an oil that was manufactured by one company and sold through another name that claims to be be the real deal. I use AMSOIL FT formula because they have been around for eons and their reputation is impeccable. RP and Lucas are very good as well...

in other words, they got a good deal on a big buy of oil with their sticker on the jug and it took too long to sell it, so they didn't order more.

reason more than likely was ups doesn't like shipping it..
You may be right. My last order of oil from Summit had a crack in one of the bottle tops and there was oil everywhere in the box, leaked about 1/2 a QT.

Yes, thank you.

I have had no problems with VR1, 20w50
Nor have we. The '70 has about 2,000 miles on it since the engine was overhauled. That included a new Isky Z-45 cam/lifter set. That car gets 20W50 as well.

It wasnt as claim,i personally contacted spectro oil to verify that was the fact so thatas how i know its true and not speculation on anyones part.

BTW,summits oil came in same bottle/with same type label with summiuts name insted of spectors, and label for summit oil also stated it was mfg'd in CT where spectro oil based.

Just wondering what you did to verify summits oil maybe wasnt mfg'd by spector oil?

But its a mute point now because summit stopped selling it other then the 30wt single grade ft cam oil they have with 1800ppm zddp still showing in thier website.

Well not always,i have been getting oil thru mail order for over 10 yrs now without ever having a mess shoiw up on my doorstep, hardly 1 drop lost ever from any oil i mail ordered.

Can it happen, yes, but its not near as much of an issue you make it out to be when your likely 1 in 1k that had 1 qt of oil blow in you order which isnt fun but things can happen once in a while.

A while back i had a UPS guy litterally thow a box with a used 3.31 ring & pinion in it on my cement doorstep breaking/chipping a couple teeth when the box hit the cement and i heard a big clang when the the gears hit eachother.

UPS refused to pay the claim, not surprised at all there.

Scott, I never said spectro did not make the oil for summit, I just said I like to buy SPECIFIC said oil from the people who make it "with their label on it". And Amsoil has been around forever with a great reputation. Please dont put words in my mouth.

Thats kinda what it looks to be,its all about money and nothing else these days,if they dont sell 1k gallons of the stuff in a month its history kind of mentality.

Too bad that they dont bother to keep a minimal inventory maybe 5-6 cases each of the FT cam oil in 10-40 & 20-50 grade for thier FT cam customers like us and just restock as need be so they dont have a ton of inventory $ involved.

They could just [pick spectro oil like other oil mfgs and sell the same oil undeer spectros main label and offer it to us that way.

But you can go to spectros site, find motorguard oil for ft cams, click on buy now and it will take you to supplier you can but it from online just as if you were buying from summit, but its approx $1 more per qt from the mfg which is Std Op Proc.

Sorry but I didnt put words in your mouth at all, read your own words/statement i pasted below here & i quote:

" I would never buy an oil that was manufactured by one company and sold through another name that claims to be be the real deal. "

It was your words " claims to be the real deal" implies to anyone reading it you didnt fully believe that specrtro mfg'd & bottled the oil for summit plain & simple .

That's why i said what i did because i always try to back up what i say here in t/c with verified facts/not speculation where at all possible.

If that was the way you took it then it was MY mis wording then, again I like to buy name brand oil specifically Amsoil because their name is on the label and I know what I'm getting, which is why my original point was "I dont like buying oil manufactured by one source and then sold under another name, to me its just to many cooks in the stew which can lead to quality control issues and inaccurate data, meaning does Summit test this spectro oil once a month to make sure the zinc and phos levels are still there. Did you have this spectro oil personally tested or are you just going by what someone tells you on the phone or website. So Summit says their FT oil made by spectro and sold under the Summit name is being discontinued because of LACK OF DEMAND, that just reaffirms IMHO why MOST people like name brand oil. So I guess backing up your facts comes down to what some Summit rep tells you... Anyway Im not going to get in a pissing contest with you Scott, I know how you get all defensive when someone has a different opinion then you when it comes to oil. I like Amsoil oil for my FT cam, at the end of the day thats all that matters, have a nice day.

I have bought oil and other liquid products many times as well with no issue. The last oil order was 24qts and instead of leaving them in the tight fitting oil boxes they threw 24qts. in a large box along with some other parts, this is why I had the issue. As you mentioned UPS is not exactly gentle with boxes.
