I posted a few days ago with some questions about swapping rears, and i thought i would give an update.
I got out of school early friday (1pm) and a few friends and i came home, and worked until 12:30am swapping in my new 12 bolt. We only had a few glitches along the way. Everyone told me i would need a combination u-joint so i went out and bought one. Well, it turns out I didnt need it. I reused the old joint, after putting the needle bearings from the new joint in it.
We had a clearance issue with my SSM Upper control arms. The driver side arm was hitting the pumpkin before we could get the bolt all the way through, so out came the grinder.
Then, the one thing that was not cleaned and checked beforehand, caused problems. The 4 holes in the yoke, where the u-joint caps screw into, were full of crap. So we pulled it back out, sat on the driveway for about 30 min cleaning them out with WD40 and running, bolts down in them, to push the stuff out the bottom.
The whole process shouldnt have taken so long, but we kind of had 2 projects going at once. While me and one friend swapped the rear, another friend and my dad were adjusting the shifter linkage of the 4 speed we just put in his 68 camaro. And other people kept stopping by, to distract/check on us.

RESULTS: Going from 2.56's to 4.56's is a HUGE jump! I drove it around that night when we finished, and i was amazed. before, at 2500, i could cruise at about 80-85 mph. Now at 2500, i'm doing 35-40.
The rear has a Moroso Brute Strength posi in it. I obviously didnt put enough of Moroso's gear lube posi stuff in it, because when i back out of my driveway, or take any other slow tight turn for that matter, the posi chatters and clunks like crazy. I'm going to mail moroso to see what they reccomend for lube.
Its sunday now, and i'm getting a bit more used to the higher revs. It's still a bit uncomfortable to cruise around at 3000. I guess i'll get used to it though. It'll only be a few weeks til i get the OD anyway.

Just thought i'd let you guys know how it went.

Glad to here it all went well. I went from 2.73 to 4.10 in my 78 when I put the 9" in it, That was a huge difference. You went with a further change than that. I'm sure it was like night and day.

So when does the 383 go in?

Richard, I'm calling Steve at Bowtie Overdrives tomorrow to get a final price, then as soon as the tranny gets here, the stroker goes in.

Here's why i was worried about calling moroso. I used Richmond gear oil, and on the bottles it said that they already had a posi additive in it. But Moroso said to use their climbing gear lube with this posi unit. This climbing lube comes in a big bottle; like a quart. I only put in about a 1/4 of the bottle, if that, since the lube said it had additive in it already.
Should i drain it all? Then put in just the GM additive, and then gear oil that doesnt have the additive in it already? or what?
