hey guys/gals I am looking to purchase a new rear suspension set up for my 69 malibu. I am replacing my 10 bolt with a 12 bolt posi so I figure this is a good time to replace those stock bushings. I have been doing searches in the forum and have read the 8 page conversation several times and feel even more confussed than when I started. From what I have been reading is that rubber bushings are a good idea for rear suspension. The problem I am having is selecting a product to purchase. I looked through my Jegs mag and saw that all of the companies usued polyurethane bushings. Hotchkis , Edelbrock, jegster and also global west(also sold a more expensive de- something) I wanted to purchase a new set up with holes for my new sway bar so I really dont want to use my stock control arms and have to weld and drill. People have to be using these products or else the compainies wouldnt be in buisness. I have always heard good things about hotchkis products from friends so I am confussed on what to do, any help?

I'm sure Dennis will chime in soon and let you know about the different possibilities. Also, keep reading those posts in the archive, there is tons of good information.

I myself went for a compromise between full rubber and full Poly: Rubber uppers and Poly lowers with F41 swaybar. Feels great, didn't notice any binding yet. I guess it always depends on what you expect.

Poly in the lowers won't be much of a problem, but I'd definitely recommend rubber in the uppers.

It's tough to figure out what's best when all the magazines hype the crap sold out there to keep advertising dollars coming in. Olli offers some sound advise, if you want to play with poly than make sure you keep it in the lower arms. I still am pretty adamant against using it at all but at least in the lower arms it won't hurt articulation as much. The biggest thing to remember is that you WANT/NEED the upper arms to be able to twist, either from spherical bearings allowing them to freely rotate or from thin channel being able to twist and rubbers compression properties.

You still have to replace the axle bushings.


Yeah, I really like the Edlebrock arms.

hey man i too came into the suspension game and read all the forumns i bascially came up with the poly in the lowers cause i bought the edelbrock set havent had any problems at all make sure you follow the recommended install procedures i thought about putting rubber bushings in the upper control arms but i dont know if you tried to take the old ones out or have put new bushings in, but those upper control arms are not that solid; you start messing around with that and yeah it turned into a giant pain in the ass and i just went down to my parts store and bought a set of edelbrock adjustable uppers no fuss no muss install with the poly everything comes with just what i went through trying to figure out the bushing control arm deal hope it helps

Has anyone experienced the need to fight the rear sway bar into place between the 2 lower control arms? I had forgotten how much trouble I had getting that thing in until I had to reinstall it again recently. Is there an order of operations to follow putting that thing in? To stay germain to the thread, I took my stock lowers and boxed them. Used the stock uppers. Installed new Moog rubber bushings. Don't know how it's gonna do yet.
