Well Shaner, it's not a rumor. They'll all bolt up but 64-65 are the narrowest, 66-67 are a little wider, and 68-72 are wider still. If my memory serves me (and you) well, the 66-67 rears are 58 1/2 inches wide backing plate to backing plate - or 1 inch narrower the the 68-72s (which you should be able to use as well).
The wheel house is the problem on the 66/67 cars, it's tiny. The back spacing will be critical on a rear that is wider. I used a 65 rear for my 67 and found the 15x7 rallye wheels with 60 series tires was all that would fit, and they are tight.
I believe the 65-67 rears are 53 1/4 inside backing plate to inside backing plate. The 68-72 rears are 54 1/4 inside backing plate to inside backing plate. I put a 65 Chevelle 12 bolt under my 67. 15 x 8 Ralleys 4 1/2 in back spacing, 255 60 15 Goodyears just clear the outer fender well.

Ryan, what year rear end did you install in your 67? With a 65 rear end, it would seem you would have more room,,not less. I've seen 67 Chevelles and Elkys with 15x10 wheels and 275's using the stock rear end.
