After i put everything together, something got screwed up with the pinion. So instead of trying to fix it, because it was just an old 8.2 with a half rusty ring gear, i'm searching for something else. A local yard has 3 A-body rears, a '72 Monte Carlo, '70 ElCamino, & '70 Olds. I have a couple questions,

1. I know the ElCo rear should be a direct swap, but what about the others? Whats different on them?
2. Would i be able to use my Superior forged axles and Richmond LockRight in say, the Monte rear?
3. What are the chances the Monte rear is an 8.5?

1 - They will all bolt in and work -might need a conversion u-joint
2 - See 3 -if my guess below is correct ,the axles and lockrite would fit the 8.2" rears but not the 8.5"
3 - Believe the MC & ElCamino will be 8.2" and the Olds possibly an 8.5" with bolt in axles.

Exactly, my guess is that the Monte rear is 8.5, and the Olds is 8.2 BOP. I just want a direct swap into my car and would rather not have to spend any more on parts. If the Monte rear is 8.5 and would bolt right in, would i have to upgrade the axles? Main reason i did on the 8.2 was because of that, its an 8.2. lol

Ok i just got back. There were 3 rears, the 72 MC rear was 8.2 with 2.73 gears, a 70 ElCamino rear that was locked, and a 69 Chevelle rear that had the pinion half busted off.

So he tells me he'll sell me his 1 season old dirt track rear that he's been sitting on for a while. Its a 10 bolt 8.2 with new 3.73s and a minispool he'll sell me for $200. I think i'm going to take it just because i already have brand new axles and Lock Right to strengthen it up. I just hate going with another 8.2.

Also I'm going to need a conversion u joint. My old rear had 4 bolts that connected the DS, U-joint to the pinion yoke. This yoke just has 4 holes without threads. Which conversion u joint do i need?
