I got problem with the rear in my car. I installed new Richmond gears 3years ago about 200 miles ago. The rear started to make a growing noise on the last ride last year, this year it has got worse. I took the rear apart to find that one of the spider gear shims came out? and got chewed up it ended up in the pinion in the bottom. Could this make a growling noise at let off. My tooth pattern looks good the rear worked good for two years. any help or sugestions would help. The ring and pinion has about 20 thousands back lash. All bearings feel good.

You say it worked fine for two years, but it actually only lasted 200 miles! That's about 3 days worth of driving to work for me! Better check that backlash again, or better still, have someone who does rearends double check what's going on. The next time, the damage could be worse. Good luck!
