I have a 70 chevelle ss 396 that I bought to restore. From what I understand the serial no. will not tell you if this is an SS or regular coupe.I was told by one of the restoration suppliers that a true SS had front disc brake, and a round guage cluster which I have on mine. It has dummy lights instead of real guages and no factory tach. Is there anything else that could tell me about the car? Thanks.

Serial numbers are attached to drivers side of dash, visible through the windshield.CHECK THEM OUT.Mechanically, the super sport came with the F41 suspension, power front disc brakes and either the 402ci(marketed as a 396) or the 454ci V-8.
