OK, I understand that American Plastic Chrome is out of business. At least the plastic chrome business. I also understand that cvvacuumplaters and Laysons, among others, are recommended alternatives. According to their websites, they utilize a process called aluminum deposition, and then top coat that with a clear finish. Is this the same process that American Plastic Chrome used? And is it AKA Vacuum Metalizing?
This aluminum deposition process does not sound very durable. Is there anyone out there that plates plastic the the way it was done originally when our cars were new?
