So I finally got around to putting my keystones on my car and have a problem with the rear ride height and was wondering how I would go about raising it. I replaced the shocks like 4 years ago but the coil springs are the originals. The tires on the rear are 255/60/15 and the lip of the quarter is sitting like 1/2 inch above the sidewall but if you push down on the trunk it goes right into the sidewalls. I'm assuming my coil springs are shot cause they're so old but I don't really know what kind to get. Do they make heavy duty springs or would big block springs make a difference? I kind of want to raise it an inch or two cause I need new tires on the back plus they're 60s and the fronts are 75s. Which also has me wondering whats the biggest rear tire you can fit on a stock 70 chevelle. Thanks.

Stock wheels

15x4 keystones 215/75/15

Kind of how I want it to sit These rears are 255/60/15

If your only looking for an inch or two, i went with air shocks. Simple, cheap and you can lower it down by bleeding the air out or raise it by pumping it up. Just like you would your tires. I have my valve stem attached to both shocks and i mounted the air valve under my licence plate on the rear cross member. If your tires are rubbing on your inner fender lip you might want to try a different offset for your rear rims or have the fender lip smoothed by a professional body shop to run the wide tires. Stock springs worked fine for me. Hope this helped, good luck

raise the rear = wheel hop city. ruins the rear suspension geometry immediately. Hasn't changed since 1964.

call these guys ..

give them your inside spring dimensions and they will give you a set of air bags for $80 or so. I've used them in Jeeps and had good luck getting a inch out of it when a winch made front sag.

Yeah not really worried about wheel hop as it's the stock 350 and one wheel wonder. I'll probably end up putting a big block in it with posi but I'm not going to really be racing it anyways. I was thinking either air shocks or air bags. Idk yet though.

remember when hi-jackers and lakewood ladder bars were the state of the art in bolt on rear suspension?....ahh, that takes me back.

As does mine, but not the original air shocks, and yes, they still make them. Monroe Max-Air MA762. About $60 for the pair from Rock Auto. Includes air line and fittings. I literally just unbolted a well used set from my EC. I'm trying to do away with them (got new stronger springs and new shocks to go on).
