That's the most annoying part of this wiring problem. Whenever the radio is on and I hit the brakes, the radio goes out. But if I let up, it will come back on. Sometimes I even need to give it a little gas before it comes back on. On top of all this, I seem to be getting very low power, the dash and the interior lights are quite dim. Any ideas where the mis-wiring may be?

Doen't sound like a short because it always starts working again. The 78 Elke? If so, on your fuse block there's a fuse marked STOP HAZARD.
Scratch the ends of the fuse a little.
Measure between each end of the fuse and ground. (+) meter on fuse (-) meter on frame. See what voltage you have.
Push down on the brake pedal. Measure the same 2 points again.
Well, there's a starting point. Post back what you see.
